Creative Organizations

Méduse is made up of ten artistic and cultural organizations dedicated to artistic research, production, and presentation. Member organizations work both independently and together, each contributing to the global reputation of Quebec culture and to international artistic exchanges. The cooperative’s production spaces serve a broad community, hosting and presenting hundreds of artists from Quebec and beyond every year for workshop stays and short and long term creative residencies. Member organizations put on over 300 public activities, enjoy the support of several thousand members, and reach an estimated audience of 50,000 people every year.

Avatar is a nonprofit organization specialized in researching, creating, and disseminating audio and electronic art. Since its foundation in 1993, it has fostered collaboration among artists at every level with activities designed to spark discussion, creation, and production through local and international alliances.

Its facilities are located in Quebec City in the Coopérative Méduse building and include research and recording studios, a computer laboratory, and an electronic lab. It keeps abreast of the latest practices and technology and constantly renews its equipment for the benefit of the artists who work there.

For over 15 years, Avatar has based its activities on the following four goals:

- Bring together audio and electronic art creators

- Help artists get access to the equipment and skills they need to practice their art

- Promote the work of Quebec City and Quebec artists on the national and international circuit

- Promote cross-disciplinary collaboration among creators
